@madman - Especially now. Windows 7 has made a huge difference, for the better, in the entire user experience.

As K-Lo said, you don't have to spend big money on a Mac

Apple's online store has a refurbished zone ( near bottom of left hand column on store page ) where they offer ex-demo, cancelled orders etc at very attractive discounts. Stocks vary of course but it's worth checking out and following till you see the deal you want. All items come with full factory warranty and 90 day telephone support to which you can add Apple's extended warranty if you wish.

I lurve my Apple

Cheers

Since you already have the Mac software it would be easier to stay with what you have. Most iMacs are under $2k and you can get up to a 27" screen which is great for photo editing. I own both PC's and Macs and I much prefer the Mac, I just like the user experience much better. I'm not a fanboy though that will say a Mac is the best thing ever, everyone has preferences.

Oh, I know. Of my machines, I've got one on Windows 7, two on Vista, 4 on XP. All my Macs are on Leopard (haven't bothered with Snow Leopard)

Once you go Mac you will never go back, lol. I have a 24" iMac and I just got a 21.5" iMac a few weeks ago. The newer iMac's are LED and run a lot cooler. Very easy to use compared to PC's. I just got rid of my last Toshiba laptop and couldn't be happier. Mac's aren't as expensive as you think, especially for what you get. The next one I get will probably be a Mac Pro laptop. Apple's warranty is second to none. They repair or replace no questions asked. My hard drive was dying and they replaced it with a new one for free and I had it back in 2 days. I bought my iMac from Australia and they repaired it here in Hawaii with no problems. They even gave me a new US power cord for free.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Madman I looked for a place to ask the question and must of over looked. I the EOS owners would have a opinion. I am loading from a card reader. Just seems so slow compared to my HP at work. Looks like a new Mac,thats definitely what the wife wants. How much RAM are you guys running.

If you are getting a new Mac, go for the 27in one and get one with i7 processor. It will cost more, but the performance is worth the extra cost. Anything less than the 27in iMac isn't really worth buying because it is running the older Core2 processor which is fast, but not nearly as fast as the new i7. As for RAM, you can either buy one with lowest amount of ram and upgrade yourself or if you don't feel comfortable doing that, get 8GB as that should be enough for most photo editing.

I really wonder how many of the Mac fanboys and PC fanboys have spend any time actually using the other system?

Probably more than you think. I have Macs, several PCs running a few variants of windows and a half dozen linux boxes of various provenance (CentOS, older Redhat and Ubuntu). Rated on a scale of increasing frustration I'd rate the Macs as low maintenance, linux in the middle and PCs as being just plain annoying. That's just my opinion, of course, but I do all my own system management.

If you are technically minded and don't mind spending a day setting up software and hardware... get a Hackintosh... its bootcamp but in reverse. OSX snow leopard on a PC. Dual boot it with windows 7 and you got best of both worlds for a very good price. Info and support is readily available around the internetz.

Seems kind of silly to me. I already have everything all the programs I need on my windows system.

I have Macbook Pro, Macbook, and I had an iMac. I also have several PCs.

Both systems are fine, but to be completely honest, PCs are just as good in pretty much every regard as Macs are. I find people who are in love with Macs are just use to the way Macs are.

How's this ... I was first certified by Microsoft as an MCSE in Win NT4, then in Win2K. As required by my career path I was also certified in Novell 3.x/4.x. I worked in Novell before I did Windows. Because of that work I was required to have a network certified notebook. If you don't know what that means, it meant that all the hardware in the notebook was tested and certified to work on WinNT and Win2K. Not only was I a Microsoft 'fanboy' as you called it, I was what I considered a Microsoft Whore.

When I left that industry I no longer had access to the supply chain for the superior Windows network certified notebooks. By the way they cost on average 203 times what the consumers were buying. I went shopping for a new notebook and looked at all the notebooks offered in the consumer outlets for Windows. Needless to say I was sadly disappointed in what was put in my hands.

The sales guy says, wait here a minute I'll be right back. He cam back and put a notebook in my hand that was impressive. It just felt better built than all the others I was shown. I told him I would take one, it was an Apple G4 Powerbook. I was so impressed that the next year when I was due to buy a new notebook, I opted to keep the G4 PB and buy a G5 Power Mac desktop. When I opened up that Power Mac to install more RAM I was blown away with the build quality inside as opposed to say the average windows box. Where did Apple hide all the cables?

If you have never seen the inside of a Power Mac take a look here --- ( where are all the wires for the drives and such? ) http://upload.wikimedia.org …/1a/Power_Mac_G5_open.jpg (external link)

This all took place many years ago. I have since switched out all of the machines here to Mac and I gotta say my life is easier.

Honestly if you had told me that 10 years ago I would have called you crazy, but it was about 6 years ago I think when I made the total switch over to Mac.

I have played on both sides of the fence, and I have to say I am happier sitting under the Apple Tree then I am in the house looking out the Windows!

Total cost of ownership:
Cost to buy + Cost to maintain - Proceeds from sale

I'll take a Mac any day.

Period.

PC=poor man's Mac

Sure you may less up front but in the end you'll be ripping your hair out and have paid more for all the ancillary costs.

Trust an old bald man....

well, for price to performance, a new PC will generally be a better deal than a Mac, but since you have the software already, just get a nice iMac or something.

I absolutely agree. Besides the PC i built ffor gaming which is a rocket ship, I bouught myself a ncie Asus gaming laptop at BestBuy for around 900 that has been processing my 5D-2 files in seconds. It also has no problems runnin any PC game out rite now on the highest settings which i doubt any Mac could do.

For the money i think the Asus pc's are ver hard to beat in my opinion with excellent reviews.

I'd stick with a Mac. I spent about $2000 on an 24" iMac in 2008, and haven't had any problems with the machine or working with 18mp raw files (no lag, no stutter).
