Just wondering, a circular polarizer is suppost to help reduce glare from subjects and using a flash, even with a diffuser, sometimes I can wash out an image. I started to wonder if anyone has used a polarizer along with their flash gun to shoot things like flowers.

I guess I could give it a try, but I wondered if anyone else has used a polarizer and flash

AFAIK light from flash does not get polarised very well by reflection from a surface so a CPL on the lens will not do much. I have seen people use cross polarisation with flash which does work but requires some polarising sheet on the flash head as well. Of course you lose a lot of light doing this (about 4 stops i think).

I'm not sure that it would work all that well. In studio setups they used to use polarizing screens in front of the flashes and on the camera to cut the reflections down. The trick was to rotate the screen on the strobe to get the lights giving off a similar wave and cut down on the glare. Just as the polarizer only works in clearing skies from certain angles, it would likely have the same issue with your flash.

Yes, it's been done before (external link), but a polarizer on the lens is only half the trick. To remove all glare, the light source needs a polarizer on it too.

If the subject is being lit using only artificial light sources with filters on them, you can go as far as removing all reflections from a subject.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.
