What do you guys use as your 2nd body or backup to your 5D? I've been using a 20D alongside my 5D and am finding myself wanting to upgrade to another body that performs similar to the 5D in terms of dynamic range, ISO performance, etc. Not necessarily exactly like the 5D, but at least similar.

I know the files will inherently look different when mixing FF and crop systems, but I was unsure if something like a 40D can produce files that process close to the 5D. Ultimately the best option would be to get a 2nd 5D, but I'd rather not have to sell lenses from my current setup to fund it if I can avoid it.

I know this is a day late, but my combo is the 5D and the 1DM3 (I hear they are selling for <$2k). The images from the two bodies are very similar and the high performance of the 1D3 fits as a fantastic compliment to the strengths of the 5D. Just sayin'!

Ha! Thanks for what sounds like an unhelpful tip ;)

Will it also make me want a studio? One thing at a time, please, folks! :D

Abbie, Jon's advice is very good. Seriously, do whatever you can to get that flash off the camera. It makes all the difference to making shots that make people with P&S cameras say "how the heck did you do that".

Strobist is a great place to start. Read the "lighting 101" tutorials. And no, you don't need a studio. It's all about on-location off-camera flash.

Congrats. :)

Thanks for the advice, Brett. I'm sure I'll eventually get more interested in external lighting... guess the flash is step 1. I've heard a ton of people mention this strobist website. I've bookmarked it. Yet another thing to spend hours reading about in attempt to improve :D

Excellent shot, Photomek. What lens was that taken with? Care to share the basic PP method you used? The colors really pop, especially that deep blue sky.

Mike, I dunno why but your "people" shots always look red to me man. Do you use the same make up artist for all the people maybe?
