ok everybody I am looking to get some modifiers for my 580ex II and two 285hv's. I need suggestions on budget gear that is still darn good that will fit on the flashes with no problem. I already have two stands and wireless triggers.

Plan on getting the umbrella swivel adaptors from flash zebra. So really all i need is suggestions on light modifiers that will work directly with the flashes.

I guess the obvious question is what quality of light are you looking for? An umbrella is very different that soft box.

No idea. I am just learning so I wanted something that would be good to just learn with. Somebody had suggested the Kaeser brolly boxes that are like 29.99-39.99 for two of them.

How large are they? I have kind of a home made and bought diffusion when I'm shooting with portable over camera and use studio lights for things that really need controlled lighting and use different modifiers depending on the quality I am trying to achieve.

I agree its a total nuisance but its part of the reality. Thats my opinion anywho.. I agree about cropping out the garbage can though.

The garbage can was mostly removed with the new Photoshop app Content Aware - a nifty set of algorithms...Joe

40" I believe. I've heard they are amazing for the money.

I have a pair. 2 for $30 you cant beat em. I like using them with my alien bees on outdoors shoots. They catch less wind than a regular umbrella and if they get damaged or dirty its not a big loss.

These were taken using one.

Abbie, back to your Sound of Music shots -- those are nicely done! You handled the lighting in there very well -- congrats!

ElijahEos

From my point of view this is what i would do.

1. NEVER BUY A GARY PHONG LIGHTSPHERE--- USELESS

2. the best diffuser you can use is a ceiling or a wall- Free

3. a large round reflector and a speed light work wonders...$50.00, but you need a stand or a portable wife/assistant--wife is expensive

4. For small groups, individual portrait work--- i use a lite dome by photoflex, with a 17.00 plastic swival clamp on a light stand-- great set up- has never let me down

5. Dont use umbrellas outdoors---they constantly blow over- broke 6 outside,,,any winf or slight breeze come up and your screwed. even with sandbags:evil:

6. allen gave me some great tips for large groupes. ive triend 12-20 with speed lights and its difficult to get the light i want so i would concur with the advise from allen. I used 2 strobes last light for a family reunion shot and lit 74 people and 2 dogs at 700pm----worked perfect. Allen you Da man--- Thanks for the advise !!!!bw!

Seriously-- get the lite dome--Awesome product
