Took a self portrait earlier. Used the 5D and the 85mm f/1.8 to create the thin dof.

Damn you all to hell! (sigh...)

I just got me a 5D classic. Close to 6000 clicks on, mint condition with BG.

:D

I got mine 2 weeks ago with 731 clicks on it! It's just as new as it came out of the store ;)

But I'm still looking for a BG :(

ok, so i finally got my 35L and have been sick since i got it but i felt good enough to wander out into the block to take some shots today since my flu and allergies have let up a little bit now. Most of them were shot wide open. I didn't realize how thin the dof would be at F/1.4 so some of them are just barely in focus. Anyhow, here they are (let me know what you guys think):

Well, some seem to have transferred over, but not any of the latest ones. And I think it did that thing where the photos are "there," but when you click on one to edit it or whatever, and it tells you that it can't find the file.

Blarg.

Really nice, both the pics and the processing. My only comment -- most of them are too centered...

thanks for the comment.... its much appreciated!!!!:D

And yes your right its something I never noticed until you said it, but, the framing of the composition is very much in the centre for all of them. i can see how its redundant after a bit.... thanks for the C&C. i will consider it and keep it mind for next time!

Boy I am really enjoying my gear finally after gear hopping for a while now. And the new LR3 rocks! even though I am new to PP and im quite slow at it and its taking me a long time to learn all the stuff. I still haven't created an "efficient work flow" when processing my shots... i find it takes me ages, lol!

I know that I need to get something to soften my light (like an umbrella ). C&C always welcome.

^^^ nice shots Max! I like the third one the best.... the light is softer and more natural looking. The first one the shot is really nice but the the lighting IMO is too "strong"? <<<< if that makes sense?

Don't get me wrong, center-composition works on some of them... just yeah, it's a bit repetitive.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your processing technique for #3? I really love the colors.

From my point of view this is what i would do.

1. NEVER BUY A GARY PHONG LIGHTSPHERE--- USELESS

2. the best diffuser you can use is a ceiling or a wall- Free

3. a large round reflector and a speed light work wonders...$50.00, but you need a stand or a portable wife/assistant--wife is expensive

4. For small groups, individual portrait work--- i use a lite dome by photoflex, with a 17.00 plastic swival clamp on a light stand-- great set up- has never let me down

5. Dont use umbrellas outdoors---they constantly blow over- broke 6 outside,,,any winf or slight breeze come up and your screwed. even with sandbags:evil:

6. allen gave me some great tips for large groupes. ive triend 12-20 with speed lights and its difficult to get the light i want so i would concur with the advise from allen. I used 2 strobes last light for a family reunion shot and lit 74 people and 2 dogs at 700pm----worked perfect. Allen you Da man--- Thanks for the advise !!!!bw!

Seriously-- get the lite dome--Awesome product

YOU ARE WELCOME MIKE!!!!!

Thanks, yeah, I know what you mean -- it's hard light (bare flash). I'm still learning, but I appreciate the comments :).
