A good rule-of-thumb perhaps, but not an inflexible infallible rule. Sometime a picture is just to convey a feeling of being there. Yes and what you say is absolutely fine for a snap shot/vacation image and theres nothing wrong with that but if you want to start taking images that are more meaningful then a bit more should go into the process, don't you think?

I enjoy your pictures.
