Harleypugs I love camera porn.....makes me hawt.... ;-) More info | Sep 14, 2010 08:14 | #6424 tonylong wrote in post #10905537 Well, to me the 24-105 fits the walk-around bill with a T. There was just something "right" when they released this lens as a 5DC "kit" lens. And, to me, it's kind of fun to have a lightweight kit. Now, I kind of chuckle when I "hear" myself say that about the 5D and an L lens, since the xxD and certainly the Rebel bodies are all smaller than the 5D, but still... The 24-70 is to me more like a "workhorse" -- kind of like how I use the 70-200 f/2.8 IS. I love it, I enjoy using it, but often it doesn't make it on my camera. But when a shoot can benefit from it, boy it tends to stay stuck on the body. And, like I said above, the 24-70 as well as the 70-200 spend a lot of time on my 1D3, my camera workhorse. I love to take the grip off the 5D and slap on that 35L...talk about a great walk around set up.... 5dMKIII/grip - 24-105 4.0 IS

'Course the 1D3 has a "built-in" grip, and I don't complain, but the 5D is nice as a light, compact, anything goes body. Tony

I have a friend who has the 24-70, I'm sure I could persuade her to lend me it for an afternoon to have a test drive ![]() I borrowed a friend's 24-70 to shoot a wedding... At the time all I had was my XTi. I LOVE that lens! tonylong wrote in post #10905107 Good idea! Some people love the "feel" of the 24-70, but think of carrying it around all day with you on the camera -- if it seems a bit much for that, you might really look at the 24-105. Of course, primes are even lighter, some seem so little on the 5D !The 24-70 without a doubt is a heavy load to carry all day... I did it for several hours for the wedding I mentioned above. It was not a back breaker but I knew I had been carrying it! BlackPuma wrote in post #10905507 Tony and Mike, that's exactly what i'm looking for: "a great walk around lends on a 5d". For everything else, I sure prefer the primes... Oh, my 200mm f2.8 L II is such a nice piece of glass, it was my last gear acquisition and I'm really loving that lens ![]() The 24-105 sure fit that bill for me yesterday! Where I could shoot the C-130 that was landing at a nearby airport to my kiddo sitting in the bumper car with me! :lo: I have it for a couple more weeks while my friend is out of town.. .OH DARN! Jenn, gone back to novice photographer...
