Can buy a 1.8 85mm for a nice price.. on full frame I like that more than my nifty fifty. But is the quality of pictures the same or is the 85 better?
I love my 85 1.8.....WAY better than the nifty. Get it! You won't regret it!

All else being equal (both lenses being good copies) they are both just tools in the arsenal of one of the greatest photographic systems around. Each focal length has a different use. The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.

IMO, The 50 makes a great walk around lens for general purpose. OTOH, the 85 is a very good portrait lens, especially on a FF camera. The main ingredient in deciding which is better, is "you" the Photographer. ![]() -Bruce ++++++1 ^^^

I have both. I have found that for me using the 50 vs 85 I get sharper pictures and more close to my usual with the 85 than the 50. The 85 just feels better to me when using it. The 50 is plenty fine but I like my eyes sharpity sharp sharp sharp and I tend to get better results with the 85. Even better with the 135 but that's neither here nor there. ![]() Nope but I got one right hur www.qualityimagesupply.com
