Speaking of weddings, I just had mine for the first time ever. Went as a third photog but trying hard to make my shots look like I'm the first

cheers!

Bang on, Max! Good to see we're all learning here.

:)

I've learned a lot from this site. Especially this thread.

You got me thinking, did i ask for praise or c&c.
You are right, i was looking for praise :D
But still, all C&C are welcome!

 Technically you asked for comments, that could be interpreted either way.

And I agree, to each their own, if you like the shot, that's all that matters (assuming you're shooting for yourself)

You will. Its important to keep in mind that if you make art to satisfy yourself, you may be the only one to be satisfied by it. If you spend much time in the C&C section you will see a lot of "artists" defending weak work by claiming it was their art and they meant it that way. I almost always immediately discount those folks as being too into their vision to improve their craft.

I pretty much had the same response to your shot as the earlier critique. The mass on the bottom is too dark and heavy. I Just scrolled my screen down so that only saw the top half of the shot and It looked better to me losing the bottom third at least.

I don't know what pricing is like these days, was different in the 70's and 80's (oops, did I say that).

I think 1200 for your time is pretty reasonable (not to second guess you, but don't sell yourself short), then everything else on top.

If you set your price high, don't lower the price, but provide a special discount on it, to a bride and groom, if you wish. (say 2000 is your price - discount of 800 = 1200). You've reached the same figure, but haven't lowered your original price for future engagements. Only you will know if you can do that.

As Mike is in the business, and so is Geno, they could probably give you some advise on pricing over pm.

Shooting day is different. As you will be new, make a list of shots you want/need to take, then take Geno's advice, shoot lots and cull later.

Above all, enjoy the experience.

Oh, no. Lol! See, since it is portfolio building I am making it way clear that they are getting a special discount because of that and that after I shoot three weddings at that price, I'm going full price. I think I'm going to try $2500 for 6 hours of shooting, CD (blah), 1.5 hour e-shoot and a 16x20 gallery wrap ($75 my cost). I will see how much work I get at that price. I only really want to shoot max of 5 weddings a year at this time so if I get more serious inquiries on top of that, up goes the price.

Nice shots. How was the experience shooting a wedding for your first time?

First time trying out anything with textures. C&C welcome. Catchlights bother anyone?

Does your favorite buddy ever carry accessories (aka lens, flashes, etc.) for your buddy?

At the end i will do just art to myself so other folks opinions doesnt really matter.

Btw, i have 14 different shots of that same sunset, got few which have 1/3 rule, got few black and white. But still centered horizont and pitch black foreground is the best shot imo.

That's the best

My wife [jokingly] says I use her like a mule. If I can't decide what to take, I take too much, and whatever doesn't fit in my bag I put in her purse.
