Finally got the new PC up and running!

I'm a bit excited to have a computer that doesn't drag on 5D raw files in LR3 Beta 2.

Not huge specs, but lots of ram: i5-750 quad-core, ATI 5770, 1TB main drive, 120GB legacy storage, ATI Radeon 5770, 8GB DDR3 RAM (!), all running Windows 7.

Now I have no excuse for putting off processing images.

I wouldn't. I'd take everything I have.

Given the weight of my camera bag I doubt if I would, if I was flying that is. Perhaps our friend is driving rather than flying.

When I was in Britain last year I drove up to the Scottish Highlands with an aim to take photographs, amongst other things. I took walking gear and a mountain bike to add flexibility. The trouble was, when I was moving accommodation on a day I had all my possessions in my car. That meant that when I stopped to explore I had to use my bike, as I didn't dare leave it in/on the car (it was obviously very valuable). I realised this up-front, and for the same reason didn't take my camera bag, but made do with my G10. It was really annoying and I missed a number of shots I really wanted, but when I was biking I couldn't carry the camera bag and I didn't dare leave it in the car.

I went someplace new today -- some forest land on a Butte overlooking Portland. Problem is it was overcast and drizzled pretty much all the time:

Taken in the drizzle with the 50 f/1.4 at f/3.5:

The view from the bluff wasn't all that scenic but this came out OK, taken with the 16-35:

And, I came across an old stone bridge/tunnel passing under a road into the woods, taken with the 50 f/1.4:

And such went my rainy afternoon!

I had planned to only bring 35L to Amsterdam, but took 24 and 50mm instead and it was great. :) However, it turned out that I used 50L for 95% of the shots, so just 35mm (or 50mm) would have been fine on this trip.

Herman, have a great trip to Paris! We're going to Scotland this summer and I really look forward to it.

Well thank you Helena;) I've only got two primes (100f2 & sigmalux) and can't afford the 35L, so I have to make do with that.

Have a great trip to Scotland! I wish to go there some day..

I shot this wedding as favor. I hate shooting weddings, but this went pretty well.

Pick up a 35F2. It is small, cheap and sharp as a tack. Great little lens.

It is slow to focus but who cares in a walk around lens.

Excellent value.
