Ouch

Today I was shooting a rugby game for a friend and seeped a little to close to the aide line and got hit by the lines man at almost full sprint we were both whyching the ball so now I have a black eye and a broken lens hood - my camera was in shotingbpostion and hit me square In the face

Any 1 else had a booboo while shooting ??

I've dumped myself down a couple cliffs....

Dang! Good to hear that the only thing that broke was a hood, though. did you at least come away with a good "incoming" shot?

Nope I was knocked flat on my arse and it to me a few seconds to work out what happened

I prefer not to talk about this Few years back, I did manage to slide down the hill on the end of first run of one alpine skiing World cup races ("luckily" for me, it happened on top of steepest part of course). I stopped 200 or 300m lower, while my camera (1dmk2 with 300/2.8 ) was left somewhere half way down in snow (battery managed to drop out, so battery compartment was filled with snow). But luckily nothing happened. Camera got dry till start of second run, one of coaches on course managed to catch battery and he brought it to me later on evening, when we went for beer. So I hope my accident number will stay with this single one for next couple of years

Just wondering...were you accredited or did you have credentials?

This was at a local park the teams were Oahu (island in Hawaii) vs a team from newzeland ( they stopes here on the way back from a tour in the mainland)
so I did not need -

Was a great game tho the team from newzeland won but those guys live and breath rugby where as here in America they IMO try to play rugby like football and do long runs with the ball and the newzeland team used this to there advantage

Oh and the Ken I had on was my sigma 70-200 f2.8 with a 2x tc
so thing weights half a ton when it hit me

I fell and hit hard on a stone path while hiking out to an outcrop early one morning in the Grand Canyon. We were trying to get to a particular vantage point to shoot the sunrise. I tell everyone my wife pushed me, but in reality, I stumbled over my own big feet. Camera and lens were fine - just a scuff on the lens hood, but my whole left side and knee were bruised.

So, I'm guessing you didn't have credentials and weren't supposed to be where you were.
At the risk of upsetting somebody, especially all those who think they should have unrestricted access at sporting events, this is the perfect example of why inexperienced photographers SHOULD NOT be given access to the sidelines of sporting events, no matter what level of event it is.

I agree with this- I'm relatively new to shooting sports but I make sure I know what's going on around me. I saw a photographer step into the middle of the pack mid-race at a JV track meet the other day. Needless to say nothing good came of it.

My bad - I was shooting for the coach of the Oahu team - and have you never whatched a pro game and seen a protographer get hit ?? I

I love self-righteous guys who take the opportunity to lecture someone. I see credentialed pros get run over all the time at bball and football games - it is the nature of the beast.

In general you learn to stay back from the sidelines, although that doesn't always guarantee not getting clobbered. That's why a lot of sports guys shoot with both eyes open - to cut down on the tunnel vision effect.

You bet, and sleep with one eye open!
I do the same thing when shooting to avoid being the clay pigeon.
