It's been a while since I did an update post, so just collating a few here. Just curious why posts that go over actual lighting and photography using it, always seem to get less responses than posts solely about gear.

Most recent shoot, using a 1x2 meter black subtracter panel, and a gridded spot on a boom arm. http://mr-chompers.blogspot.com …liljainthegreenhouse.html (external link)

And a black and white physique shoot, using large 1x2 meter diffusion panel, and 1x2 meter reflector panel, with a boomed and gridded small softbox for the face: http://mr-chompers.blogspot.com/2010/04/smoothrimlight.html (external link)

As a budding photographer who is new to lighting, I totally appreciate this kind of info. Thanks! Love the username by the way! I can't wait to hear the story behind that one ;)

And a new one. Figured I'd bump this thread.

Started a new series a month ago and finally got my photo-pc setup and procesed it.

It's pretty frustrating to make effort posts like this and get 1 reply, and then see gear threads multiple pages long.

Doesn't anyone want to talk about lighting technique and not just watt seconds and expensive modifiers?

Technique is over rated. Especially if you have the latest and greatest in gear, then the technique is built right in. I heard about an awesome new strobe, you don't even have to set it up to shoot, just have it on location and you will get better shots automatically.

Nice walkthrough's though. Adding one or 2 BTS shoots might be nice so people can more easily visualize the setups.

I'm always forgetting to do the BTS shots. There is one for the rimlight shoot, and a few for other's when I remember, but it seems I'm always so focused on the shoot itself I forget. You are right though, I do need more of those.

I have 2 monolites and 2 speedlites and am quite happy with these tutorials. I have 2 Calumet Genesis 200's with softboxes and the 2 speedlites with shoot-through umbrellas. I've only been able to play with them twice, so I'd love to see other people's techniques get advice. Thanks again!

Nice blog. However, I was disappointed to see that you've only got a setup shot for the B&W rim shot photo. Would liked to have seen photos of the setup for the others, no matter how basic they are.

Be sure to click "older posts" at the bottom. There are 50 posts from 2008, and 30 from 2009, several of which have BTS setup shots.

Thanks or the post! I will be checking out your blogs for sure as I am just starting to work without studio lighting techniques.

not sure what BTS is, but pullback shots would be beneficial (is that what BTS is?)...you want responses, post those in here and not just the blog...i'll check here, but don't like needing to go elsewhere to see "the rest"...my $0.02...
