Hey all...
I am a gamer....and I since my Scott Kelby books on CS3...I have grown quite accustomed and am getting much better//quicker using CS3.
My issue is my wrist. It is killing me and i have stop often to rest it.
What type of mouse/wrist pad combos do some of you use?
I am thinking my mouse....a logitech, is too small and that makes my palm curl up wards.
Just looking for some in site from you all/.

Logitech MX's and VX's. Not for the most detailed work, but extremely comfortable. Only down side is they are a little expensive.

If you are just looking for a mouse to use with CS3, I would recommend a tablet...awkward at first, but helps a lot in the long run..

For gaming...try something made my Razer, they have a very large relaxed feel to them.

I use a Sidewinder x8, but my hands are huge and if you have smaller hands, you wouldnt like it.

Tablet x 3.

I just got a new Wacom Intuos4 and it is an absolute pleasure to use. I spent the entire weekend doing photo restoration and I love it!

Tablet here as well! I might also suggest try out a track ball instead of a mouse... 98% less movement of the wrist.

I really have thought about the tablets......just was not sure if I could get used to it....
I may look at the MX's again......they are bigger....and more expensive.
Thanks for your input all!

There is the Contour Rollerbar Mouse Pro. I use one at work. It has saved my wrist. But it might be difficult to Photoshop with. But I hate using a mouse anymore. Expensive at $200 though. And the cheap generic versions get horrible reviews.

Some on topic but differing options you might consider.

I used to enjoy the odd game or two, and participated in other computer related activities at home,. Photo editing among them. While at the same time I used to do a lot on computers at work... soon this all caught up with me and I had similar issues to yours. I started with wrist brace, and looking for better mice, but came across some other changes that were far more effective.

1. I learned to be completely ambidextrous with a mouse. I set up my work computer to be left handed mouse,. and that gave me my strong arm for gaming and editing at home. This is by far the biggest change you can make, literally cutting in half the amount of stress you put on your wrist.

2. I got a pen tablet for photo editing. I still use mouse for some tasks, but a pen tablet, a low cost small one like the old "Graphire" is a much better tool for most editing tasks, and is far easier on the wrist.

You might also consider your seating position.
I used to game up to 8hrs a day and suffered from a sore wrist.
I found that if I used a chair that had an arm rest and set it up so that my forearm rested on it, it helped.
I also now have the arm rest set to the same level as my desk while using the mouse, this works better as there is no pressure being exerted on the wrist now.

Another thing I did was to change the speed of the mouse movement, I use a 24" Wide screen monitor and for the cursor to mouse from one side to the other, my hand only has to travel 5cm across the mouse mat, left to right.
The same goes for up and down movements.

I strongly advocate the Wacom Pen Tablet for Photoshop stuff. Also, I LOVE the Logitech MX mouse for everything else. No sore wrists or hands! Look HERE (external link)

Ok oK! I am really looking into the Tablet.....on a side note...I also started using my left hand! I had to to keep going! I am going to continue with this as I can and save some pennies for a decent tablet.
Thank you again all!

I suffer from Arthritis in my wrist and use a combination of things to minimise problems -

  • I use a Logitech Performance MX. Very comfortable and easy to use.
  • I use a Razer Exactmat mouse pad - low friction, high accuracy.
  • I swap right and left-handed mousing.
  • I'm learning to use a tablet (although that can make it worse, and I can't use it left-handed).
