Definitely go for the newest firmware available. Starting with 2.0.0 in 2012 they added:

There is zero danger to installing 2.0.6. It's 5 or 6 years old now. If there had been any problems, there would have been a 2.0.7 by now. That's the beauty of last-version software. All the bugs have been worked out and there will be no more introduced.

Canon also issued a new “Instruction Manual” for the 7D because of all the new features that 2.0.0 added.

Just looked at my 7D and see it's Version 2.0.3 what bits have changed in 2.0.6, only I've not experienced any problems and being firmly in the "If it ain't broke don't fix it" camp is it worth updating.

(There was no 2.0.4)

Version 2.0.5 improvements:
1. Fixes a phenomenon in which the image files cannot be transferred using the FTP protocol via USB cable after the EOS 7D camera has established a wireless connection to the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E5 (A/B/C/D).
*: In compliance with the law regarding electro-magnetic waves in each region, there are four types of WFT-E5 (Types A, B, C, and D) for each of the respective target regions.

Version 2.0.6 incorporates the following fix:
Corrects a phenomenon in which when using the camera with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM or EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM lens, even if lens aberration correction is set to ""Enable"", correction will not be applied.

Thanks alot guys for the info. About a week ago I got the blinking battery issue with my 7D and now the camera won't turn on with a fully charged battery.ߘ Instead of spending money on the fix and I didn't want to open it I ordered a 70D used on the bay after doing some research. Maybe later on if anything I can get a used 7D MK2.

The 7D came out in 2009 so it is conceivable the camera and battery are close to 13 years old. More importantly, when you get that 70D, keep in mind it uses the same battery as the 7D so it might be worthwhile to test the 7D with the 70D battery. Old batteries, in spite of indicating they are fully charged, may not function.

Replacement batteries are relatively inexpensive by the way; you likely can get a pair for around $20.

Firmware updates almost always fix things that are broken, even if you may not have noticed the issue. Yet.
Sometimes they also bring new functions, but then it's frequently together with fixing issues as well.
