I was looking at some sort of update for my XSI and I have to say im scared to do anything to the camera besides take pictures with it. Can I screw anything up trying to download this to my camera. Basically wanting to know if anything can go wrong and kill my camera as I cant afford to buy another. Do camera shops perform this kind of update?

They would, but probably would charge....

It is easy, charge your battery to full, if you have a grip, it is better, though un-necessary. Download the firmware to you hard drive, copy it to a formatted memory card for your camera, use the menu system to update your firmware, just make sure you don't turn off the camera while you are doing the update

The main thing is to make sure your battery has sufficient charge to complete the update - last thing you want is a half updated firmware.

If the battery runs out while updating, it would most likely ruin the camera's software, this will probably invalidate the warranty on the camera itself

It will not be updated just corrupted in the camera, hence the need for the battery to be fully charged
