Just felt like mentioning,

I accidently washed my Lexar 256MB card and it survived the wash (left it in a pants pocket). It had images on it and they copied over to the computer with no problem, I did have to reformat the card in the camera to make it useable again (versus just erasing the images, which while I don't trust, should have worked). Which indicates the card took some kind of hit, but I can't find anything wrong with it since reformating.

While I highly don't recommend that trick, it is nice to know the CF cards can survive a lot of stupidity and keep ticking.

As a matter of fact....Yes.

This may be attributed to the fact that I have been playing with my new 50/1.4 that I just got, but it couldn't be that could it ;-)a

Seriously, very nice lens, Even my 16-35/2.8 does not always lock on in Auto Focus in my living room at night with only the dining room light on (although it did have to hunt a bit twice). The only problem I had was I kept wanting to zoom it like my other lenses. Hopefully I shall see how it performs this weekend as I am supposed to have a couple models over for a portfolio shoot.

Now if I can just get my hands on a 10D (with much luck this weekend, but probably next month), I might be able to actually use the auto focus on a regular basis.

Just done the same thing to my cell phone, pulled out the washing and here it was smiling up at me fom the bottom of the bowl.

Gave it a good squirt with CRC and dried it with a fan heater, charged up the battery, turned it on and bingo it fired up.

Don't know how long it will work for and don't recommend this practice tho! Erin

A friend of mine had their 1G IBM microdrive in their kit bag where it got a drop of shampoo on it from a bottle that leaked. The card was only slightly damp on the top surface but it no longer works. You can hear it start to spin up in a card reader and then promptly spin right down again!

I think I'll be sticking with CF cards.

I dropped an old Powershot 350 into a creek while hiking on the appalatian trail, got all muddy on the front and full of water. I took out the batteries right away, but had to wait until I got home to clean it. I opened it up and cleaned the mud off, and then just left it open for about a week to dry. I popped the batteries in and it fired right up, no problems at all.
