Does anyone know a way to export a JPG from Lightroom 2 when the source file is offline (on a disconnected network drive)? I know the result will be low-resolution, just wondering if it was possible since LR does have the standard sized preview stored.

Well, that's an interesting question:)! The only way I know of extracting a jpeg from a preview is to do a screen capture, and cut out the preview. There may be "preview hacks" out there, but I've never heard of one or if I have I've never used it. Export would not work -- you'd have to hack your Lightroom .lrcat file.

That being said, besides the screen capture there are programs that can extract the jpeg built-in preview from a Raw file but that doesn't seem to be what you're after.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up just doing a screen capture, but LRViewer looks very interesting. Might be a great tool to have to view my LR database on the wife's computer.

Or print to JPEG with it set to draft should work too, I think.

You can also export a web gallery when images are offline...
