thanks everyone. We had a good time. She really loves taking pictures now, and she likes looking through the view finder rather than using live view. she was really excited to be taking pictures. I think by the time she is 6 I can go on photo hikes with her, with her own little camera.

that is absolutely precious, blow it up frame it and never take it down! A shot like that is to be treasured for a life time!

How did you light this pic? or did you just do alot of PP to get yourself and your beautiful kid to show up infront of the sun?

tripod mount, bracketed two stops apart, 3 shots. I use live view to get rid of the mirror slap, and use a 2 second delay.
The 3 exposures were then blended in photomatix. I have a few presets and try and see what works best. What comes out is then very bland usually. I use it to just try to have some workable mid tones. I exported it to photoshop, did a duplicate layer set to soft light, it really boosts contrast. but then it was too dark, so I did a duplicate layer, 70%, set to screen, which is like exp comp of 2/3. I did not like the shade of blue in the sky, so selectively change that. I boosted the contrast in the clouds some, cloned out a trashcan, and a bright hexagonal flare. Boosted local contrast some, and sharpened, straightened, got rid of dust spot bunnies, and Viola.

here is the image out of photomatix. I know it looks horrible. but that is how I like my HDR's. I then always process them in LR or photoshop. this way noise in minimized, and its more natural looking. hope that helps
