Camera Strap

Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to what brand/make of camera strap they like to use.

I am currently using the camera strap that came with my camera, and it is not comfortable; it also gets tangled very easily, which I find irks me quite a bit.

I am looking mainly for comfort. I suppose it would be cool if the strap had those quick disconnect buckles so I could take the camera off the strap without going over my neck -but again, not necessary.

And just a curiosity question -how many of you use hand straps instead of neck straps on your camera? I got one from Adorama made by Hakuba, and I used it for a little bit. I stopped using it because I found that it is actually convenient to be able to sling the neck strap across my shoulder if I need both hands ... which I can't do with a hand strap.

Go get one of these! (external link)

Comfy as heck and you're supporting POTN as well! I have this same model by Optech on all my cameras and my large prime lenses. They're awsome!!

I have the above r strap and I absolutely love it. I think this is the best camera strap on the market. I had the non POTN version of the strap mentioned in the previous post, but while more comfortable than the stock strap, it was still always in the way. The r strap is so much more convenient and makes walking around and using the camera so much easier. Plus the camera weight over the shoulder as opposed to behind the neck makes the camera feel more comfortable for long periods of time. I highly recommend it.

My only thought on the R strap is that it seems like it may be a nuisance if you're going to be mounting the camera to a tripod :(

Go to the POTN shop and buy the Neoprene one. Very nice as has been stated already.

Other than that, I like the look of a very old worn strap that screams "I am old, don't bother me". Leather is good for this, salt stains on any strap are a good thing, frayed edges are the best.

Yeah if you use a tripod all of the time then I can see how the R strap can become a small hassle. But, when I use my tripod I find all straps are a PITA. So removing the R strap is simpler to me to remove than unlacing he ends of a traditional strap from the camera. You simply unscrew the connector and screw on you qr plate. Now there has been a rumor going around that they are trying to design a insert for the Manfrotto QR plate that will attach the R strap and you will not have to do anything but unclip the strap to use your tripod. Either way, I find the R strap to be the most well designed strap on the market. YMMV

I enjoy the Black Rapid and since I prefer to remove the strap from the camera when using a tripod (to avoid the strap from blowing or bouncing around), I haven't found removing it for tripod-use to be much of an issue. In fact, having it so easily removable (unlike the stock strap), is a bonus.

Not sure if they are still doing this or not, but SmugMug was giving away free camera straps to it's members. You just fill out a form saying you want one and they send it to you. I got mine in about five days. It's black neoprene and says Smugmug on it with their logo.It stretches a tiny bit, so it gives it a good bounce. I like it because it is long. I like to have my camera hanging a little lower than the reach on the Canon strap.

I like neck straps, they just seem more convenient for me. I like the "Industry Disgrace" by Crumpler. I am just a big fan of Crumpler tho in general :)

Quite the opposite, just use the D ring on your tripod mount to attach to your black rapid. When you want to put it on the tripod, unhook the strap and put the camera on the tripod. Very quick and easy and go back and forth.

Slaps forehead.:!:

I didn't get an R-strap because of the tripod issue. This makes me feel really stupid. My quick releases have D-rings.

Do you mean the "D" ring that tightens the QR plate on the camera and then folds flat?

Don't think I'd trust 'em.
