I was writing a paper the other day, and my faithful 2 year old Toshiba laptop starting sparking from the keyboard.... this was the 2nd Toshiba laptop that shorted motherboards on me, both of them within 2 weeks of the extended warranty running out....

So... I had to go get a new machine.

Since I'm still in college (at 28 ) the replacement machine had to be another laptop so I could take it to class....

I did a lot of reading and them hopped down to Best Buy to pick up a new Asus G73J machine....

The important Specs:
Intel i7 720QM Proc.
ATI Mobility HD5870 1GB DDR5 Graphics
500GB 7200 RPM HDD
6GB DDR3 RAM
Win 7 64-Bit

This thing is a fricking speed DEMON... I'm amazed how much faster I can process photos and videos now...

I've tried to bog down the processor.. and can't seem to do it... I'm not into gaming, but in school, I have to use AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, Google Sketch-up, Rhino3d, etc. A bunch of rather intensive programs.... Then, at home add one CS4, Lightroom, etc... still can't get this thing to stumble....

Like any other store bought computer though, there was all kinds of bloatware installed... so... brought it home and spent the first 30 minutes uninstalling everything possible...

Just thought I'd share... in case anyone is looking for a power-house of a laptop... this one out the door was about $1100....Which... given the specs, I feel like it's a screaming deal...

The ASUS i7's are beasts. That's more power than even Tim "the Toolman" Taylor ever envisioned!!

Too bad you didn't buy one of those bad boys from Amazon. Would have saved you on sales tax! ;) ;)

Time was a factor... as I said... I was in the middle of writing a paper when the other one crapped out.... so... sales tax wasn't a concern... or the fact that I have to drive an hour to get to a Best Buy... and there's nowhere between my town on there where one can purchase a computer.

Understand.

My advice would be not to mess with Best Buy, if you develop a problem outside of 90-days. Get in touch with ASUS directly, as they *usually* have some of the best tech-support of any of the computer companies out there.

Enjoy.... :) :) :)

I had a harsh discussion with the people at Best Buy about an Asus notebook. I was seriously looking at the i7 unit.

I went to ASUS website and read up on their notebooks. The website said ASUS notebooks had a Two Year Warranty. Best Buy told me all notebooks sold by them have a One Year Warranty ... when I showed them the ASUS site info they grumbled about some kind of agreement between them and ASUS.

My guess is Best Buy was lying to me and all other ASUS buyers to coerce them into buying an Extended Warranty from them.

In any case I walked out buying nothing from them, which ended up being good for me.

I ended up going in a different direction, well not so different. Just stayed in the direction I was in before I went to look at that ASUS.

The whole process soured me completely on doing business with Best Buy. I bought my new notebook from the manufacturer directly.
