Very Nice! I have a 50D and was thinking of renting this lens for when they come to Dayton OH. I see it's in your wish list...did you rent or just need to update your wish list?

Either it was the lighting, or it looks like the Blue Angels need to wash and wax their F-18's.

My uncle sent me some pics he took of the Thunderbirds @ Eglin last weekend and those things are SHINY.

Great shots! I rented the 100-400L and used it this past weekend at the Punta Gorda, FL airshow. My shots were not near the quality of yours. After renting the 70-200 f/2.8L IS (with 1.4x TC) and the 100-400L back-to-back, I think I'm sold on the 70-200.

Even with a monopod, my shots missed 95% of the time past 300mm. Forget lowering the shutter speed for prop blur. All of those shots were out-of-focus and a mess.

It's probably my technique, but this lens isn't destined to find a place in my bag.

What's weird is I love my push-pull FD manual focus lenses on my A-1 film camera, but hated the "dust pump". My hand naturally fell on the focusing ring when zooming. I'm sure I inadvertantly tweaked a couple of AF shots out of focus that way.

Didn't love it, but it was the most valuable lens rental so far. Saved me $1400+!

I shot from Waterfront Park (Charleston) which is close to show center. You want to be on the Charleston side, not Mt. Pleasant. At 3:00pm (showtime) the sun will be behind you.
