Which Rosco gel would be the best to use to give my Canon 540EZ the equivalent of 1/3 stops...

or

They are both listed at approx 70% transmission.

I don't know but that never stopped me before. B&H shows the GAM filters and they are listed with X-stop values. The ND .15 is a 1/2 stop. Seems to me 9here I go again) if you found a ND .10 it would be 1/3. Any help?

Why are you trying to reduce your speedlite by 1/3 stop with filters? Not doubting your need, its just there seems to be easier methods.

1/2 stop, 70% transmission... my math isn't so hot...

Anyway, I interchangebly use my 580EXII and / or 540EZ. On the 580 when I need a touch more/less light I can use the 1/3 stops, with the 540 I have to move the light to get those slight differences. Still learning here, so I'm probably making it more complex than it needs to be.

Yeah, to me it makes sense to move a light back a foot or so rather than try to gel it for a third of a stop. The rule of inverse square is your friend for these tiny adjustments.
