Stuck on a 'timer mode'? Rebel XT

Very much a newbie, not only to this website but to the world of photography. Received a Canon Rebel XT this past Christmas and haven't had a chance to use it until recently. I just picked up the 'Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT Guide to SLR Photography' by David Busch to help me learn, but have found myself stuck and in need of help.

There is a 10 second delay before I take any photo. I have no idea how I landed on this mode. For what it's worth, I have the mode dial set on auto (green box).

Can someone help me eliminate this delay? Many thanks in advance!

Vincent,,do you have the user's manual for your camera?? I once had a 350D (same as XT).. I could show you how to change it back but couldn't tell you how..

Yep, I do have it. Any advice on where to look specifically? I'm not having a lot of luck finding what I think I need

This is hard to describe but... There is a button on the back of the camera, just a little bit above and to the left of the ISO button, it turns on the backlight and has an icon that looks like a light bulb. Right above that is the button that cycles through self timer, single shot, and continuous shooting. Hit it a time or two to change to what you want.

Button on the back of the camera:
To the right of the monochrome LCD. There are two small buttons: An "Av +/-" button and below it a button that has several icons on it (a timer, an infared remote, and a stack of frames).

Press the latter once to get it back to single-shot mode. Press it again to get it to multi-shot mode (3.5fps). Press it a third time to get it back to timer mode.

You should be able to see the changes on the monochrome LCD.
