Is there a reason I should not get a SD990? It looks pretty good for replacing my SD600.

Love mine over 7000 shots and still like new, It's also ported to CHDK that adds RAW and lots of other features. I feel my SD990 with (with CHDK) is as good as the S90

It depends on whether you want to stick to an SDxxx size, or move up a little to the S90 size. The SD990 has the G10 sensor, but perhaps not as sharp a lens, due to the camera size. The S90 has a faster and wider lens, and performs better at higher ISOs. The S90 has full real manual controls, especially PASM, while the SD990 has P and M. The S90 has a larger and better LCD (3"/460K dots vs 2.5"/230K dots). And this list of differences goes on.

Also, a quick check on Amazon found prices higher for a new SD990 than a new S90.

Very true denncald the SD990 is lacking a real aperture, but it has complete shutter speed and ISO control, manual focus, the same size sensor as the S90 but 14.7mp and an optical finder. I agree in the low light the S90 has the advantage. Wearing photogray glasses I need the optical finder in bright sun light.

SD990 Dimensions/Weight;
Dimensions (WxHxD)
3.81 x 2.45 x 1.10 in./96.7 x 62.2 x 27.9mm
Weight
Approx. 5.64 oz./160g (camera body only)

S90
Dimensions (WxHxD)
3.94 x 2.30 x 1.22 in./100.0 x 58.4 x 30.9mm
Weight
Approx. 6.17 oz./175g (camera body only)

Not much difference between these two small cameras.

I need the optical finder...

The reason I chose the SD600 instead of the SD630 is because I wanted an optical viewfinder.
