I was wondering where you've been....nice to see a photo from you.

This has a great feel...love the lighting and the way he is sitting 'backwards' on the rock

Thanks. I'd been looking for chipmunks earlier in the day but this one just kind of happened. I saw him in a neighboring camp site and happened to still have the camera with me so I fired off a couple quick shots. I was pretty happy with this one.

This one wasn't moving fast at all. He was too concentrated on his meal. Plus, I was probably 50 feet away, so he wasn't too concerned about me.

I've been trying to figure out what subspecies it is and have been going through a few books I recently bought with no luck. I have come to the conclusion that he's a squirrel though, not a chipmunk... Maybe a California Ground Squirrel, though he doesn't quite match the picture in the National Audubon Society Field Guide to Mammals. It's the closest match I can find so far...

Nice shot Lonnie! Getting these little critters isn't always easy, and you did a great job. I like the composition and the pose of the chip is excellent.

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.
