After getting my newest lens, I decided to compare the IQ with all the other lens I have with 55mm focal length.
The 4 lens are:
- Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
- Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
- Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
- SMC Takumar 55mm f/1.8
The body used was the Canon 450D, the tests were made with the camera on a tripod, IS OFF, liveview used, central point with AF by contrast (on AF lens) and manual focus on the prime using 10x zoom. Shots made with 2sec timer, jpg mode, standard profile, resolution of 2256x1504.
I tried the following apertures:
- f/4 (except 18-55IS)
- f/5.6
- f/8
- f/11
Images edited on lightroom to make the crops, I did "Auto Tone" to minimize metering diferences (cloudy day). They were exported at 675px, 95% quality with "sharpen for screen" at standard.
First sequence of crops at the center (AF point):
f/4
55-250IS
24-105 L IS
SMC Takumar
f/5.6
18-55IS
55-250IS
