Hey guys, I recently got a Canon GL2 from a user at POTN but I have problems connecting it to my computer. I tried every single way possible to fix this problem and my choices are limited now with this camcorder. I am considering about buying a 7D and was wondering if the video recording capability is up to par or even better than the GL2. Some insights or even ways to fix the problem on my GL2 would be appreciated.

Here is the link to the thread on my GL2 help thread just in case anyone of you guys know how to fix the problem

How about a T2I rather than a 7D?Thats is another topic I guess.

The GL2 is a SD camcorder, an excellent SD camcorder, but nevertheless a SD camcorder. The dSLR is HD (1920 X 1080). Past this, its hard to compare their recording capabilities; in that they produce different results.

What is your use-case for it? Indoors, outdoors, action/sports, day or night shooting? Its hard to compare the two w/o an idea of its use.For example, in bright sunlight the screen on the dSLR will washout, whereas the GL2 will have an eyepiece to look through. In night shots, the larger sensor on the dSLR will trounce the GL2's smaller sensor (I assume). With audio, the GL2 beats the dSLR every which way, because it has a 'real' mic, two balanced XLR inputs, and more control.

Unfortunately, someone broke into my house and robbed my XTi and other meaningless objects. I decided to get a 7D because of the reason stated above and I have a video project coming up where I have to go outside to the city and take some video/pictures. I would not mind getting the 50D or 40D but my GL2 does not cooperate with my computer very well as it will not connect to my PC.

Rather than a 7D, how about a T2i and a Canon Camcorder, such as this one for example.

The cost of the 7D only vs. the T2i and HD consumer camcorder should be about the same.

I'll probably be shooting pictures more than taking videos so as of now with the money I have, I would rather spend it on a 7D.

Another question, how much bigger (physically) is the 7D compared to the XTi?

Go half way down on the page and the 7D is shown relative to several other cameras. The XTi (400D) is about the same size as the 500D on the far right.

use a firewire connection that should have come with your camcorder, or the seller still has. You might need to upgrade your pc with a firewire card. It works excellent with mine. My GL2 has done everything I neded it to do indoors, outdoors, sports, weddings......

The seller did not give me his firewire cable and I bought a firewire card and updated its driver and it is still not connecting... It records fine and all the buttons and functions work but it just cannot fricking connect...

this is the firewire card I got. Installed everything (even the useless things) on the cd but still no use.
