Nice idea, but it does not work because of some "imperfections".
The tractor is "leaning" forward. Would have been better with a slight tilt the other way ("uphill") or level.
De dog should "challenge" the tractor but it is underexposed: just a black blur and seems to be running away.
Just a little bit more space under the left hand tire would have balanced the shot more for me.

It seems there is a moderately visible halo around the tractor. Did you increase the "clarity" option a bit too much? In general such halos should be avoided.

I do not see much of a halo. I have shots from right out of camera that have that. Sometimes it just happens. Very minimal.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I tried cropping the dog but it was just too tight.

I did increase the clarity and do notice a slight halo, especially around the stack

I had a better angle but the sky was very meh in it and I'd rather no make a composite.

Despite the weaknesses I do like the picture and I'm sure my father-in-law will love it.

Thanks for the input, good stuff to watch out for next time.

I sure would hate to have that spring pop through the seat... ;)

Sometimes, with old farm equipment, its a good idea to concentrate on smaller aspects of the overall subject, especially if its a real 'vintage' piece of farm equipment (for example, a name on an engine block, shifter, some odd looking characteristic, etc).

With regard to your image, except for what others have already mentioned, I find that too much detail at the bottom rear of the tractor is lost in shadow.

Now that you point out that area I do see this. Oh well. :) Easy fix to just decrease the clarity some.

I have another tractor, I like this because it looks like a face peaking out of the darkness:

Short of looking like two twin bushes I think it looks much better without the dog in it. Brings all the focus back to the tractor and looks much cleaner.

And unless you point it out your father-in-law, he might not even notice the bush looking the same since its in the background a bit.
