Is the "student" version different from the "full" version? (CS5)

Amazon have just sent me one of their nice emails telling me that Adobe CS5 is now on pre order. So I had a look.

Is the software any different?

No. Software is exactly the same. The only difference as far as I know is that you can't subsequently upgrade.

It is the same and you CAN upgrade to newer versions as they come out

There is no student priced upgrades. But student pricing is the same as an upgrade price anyway, so why bother getting the upgrade?

The main thing is: check the fine print of the student pricing requirement. In the US, adobe lets you use it for whatever reason you want, as long as you were a student or faculty member when you purchased the program. In the UK, they have a strict non-commercial part of the EULA.

Actually student versions are cheaper than upgrade versions.

But as far as I can see its the equivalent of a full product.

When you are no longer a student and cannot purchase a student edition, you then can upgrade to the normal commercial edition when the newer versions come out.

True, but if you are eligible for it, why not

The student eddition would be exactly the same as the full retail.

The upgrade would be the same price as a new version with the student discount.

well yeah I agree with that, I'm just saying if you are no longer a student you can still upgrade from the student version. For a while a lot of people including myself thought you could not upgrade from a student version. The thought was that you had to buy a full version but that is not true.

Student and Teacher editions for the US;
ARE the same full program as retail versions
CAN be upgraded to later commercial version,
can be installed on 2 private use computers; i.e. not at school
CAN be used for commercial work.
cost LESS than any other form of upgrade.

As long as you're in a 4 year program, you're pretty much set.

And as a special note, i believe there is no standard PS version for the Student and Teacher edition, its only PS Extended. for 200$. I have CS3 Master Collection, and my upgrade to the standard edition is 200, extended is 350.

Only in the US
