My wife and I are going to spend a few days in Atlanta and Savannah GA next week. Does anyone have any recommendations on where I can go to take some good pictures? I love landscapes and architecture. I haven't tried street photography yet, but it sounds fun. Thanks in advance!

Love that city! Although I have explored so little of it the few times I have been through there.

River Street (appropriately named as it is next to a river) has some neat little scenes/shops there, could be good for people watching, street vendors, etc.

Behind some of the shops there are some neat scenes, dark alleys with really old architecture.

Most of all enjoy the peopole and the food there, such a nice place, except for the bugs! The Fire Department there has some old stations as well and most guys are pretty friendly if you want to stop in a take a few pics, just another idea for ya.

Here are a few from my trip last year, we were only passing through from our way home from Jekyll Island so could only stop for lunch. These were taken with my old XSi and kit lens.

Savannah is probably my favorite city. I was stationed in Beaufort, SC so it was either Savannah to the south or Charleston to the north since they were about equal distance away and I never enjoyed Charleston all that much... I've been back since I got out of the Marine Corps and stayed out on Tybee Island with the family while we were there and day-tripped everywhere from that spot.

Do some research on the houses (like the infamous Mercer house where the events there ended up as a book, then a movie based the book "Midnight In The Garden Of Good & Evil") and all those amazing houses that face the many squares. They have so many different styles of architecture there it'll blow your mind.

The squares are cool and some more significant than others, but I can't remember all of that anymore. A Google search can lead you to the best for photographs.

Go through Bonaventure Cemetary - it is incredible and the monuments worth a few hours of your time. And one place that I thought was pretty cool was getting out to Wormsloe early to get a photo or two of Oak Ave with all the Live Oaks on each side (look it up - very cool.)

And of course River Street. Enjoy!

I photograph to find out what something will look like photographed.

The squares are great photo ops, with all kinds of monuments, trees and architecture. Look up the house that Gen Sherman occupied. Look up the Hay House. Check out the churches, too. St john's is my favorite. The cemeteries are special. Fort Pulaski is worthwhile to tour and get photos of its walls marred by cannon fire. Tybee Island has attractive beach, a lighthouse and some interesting houses, too. Yeah, River Street is a must, especially inside the candy shops.

Thanks for the tips. I'll be spending some time on Google here in a bit. We're going to be staying near the SW corner of Forsyth Park in a quaint carriage house. It's time to see what's nearby!

Tybee is pretty cool too. It's definitely worth spending a few hours there. As a matter of fact, I'll be celebrating my last day as a pharmacy student tomorrow by hitting the beach after work.

Other than that, downtown is great for shooting unique things.
