There seems to be a lot of love on this forum for the 35L and to a lesser extent the 24L II. Which do you prefer (and why)?
I should be getting the 24L II in two days and was wondering if I could have saved a few dollars by going with the 35L.

Why bother those who log on to this forum by asking us to vote on a decision you've already made. I think you're imposing on us. JZG

Why bother those who log on to this forum by asking us to vote on a decision you've already made. I think you're imposing on us. What do you mean ....."which do you prefer and why". That's a broad, technical & serious subject, and cannot be possibly answered by voting in a childish, superficial poll.....without you revealing any information about your needs, I might add. Is it buyers remorse that compels you to seek advice about what you should have bought after you bought it ? Do you seek the comfort of group re-assurance that you did the right thing ? Each member has individual needs, experiences, opinions and last, but certainly not least, drastically differing financial capabilities to indulge those needs and opinions. Seems to me that no matter how many take the time to actually vote in this totally pointless poll, you'll still have no assurance whatsoever that the lens you eventually wind up with is the right lens FOR YOU. I respectfully submit, that the next time you contemplate a major purchase such as this, you first think about it independently, analyze your own particular needs and skills, and only then, once you think you see things more clearly and have made heads & tails out of your specific situation, seek the opinions ( because that's all any of this kind of info will ever be) of others on this forum before you buy the damned lens.....but you'll still have to let people know exactly what you're expecting from the item in question and what you plan to do with it. Did you even read your own post ? How the Hell can anyone intelligently counsel you, let alone vote on whether you bought the right lens or not when there's absolutely no mention of what you intend to use either lens for. The two lenses in question are both very good, but they are not interchangable, and they certainly aren't so similar to each other that it's a case of one or the other, whichever the crowd recommends. Even if you do take action to reflect what the poll numbers tell you, how will you know you made the right decision ?.....or do you mean to imply that you would actually take action as a result of a poll based on such shallow information. Moderators, if this is offensive and subjects me to disciplinary action, go ahead and just ban me permenently, and remove my name from the member's list. I've had enough of POTN. Who peed in your Wheaties this morning?

K6AZ Cream of the Crop More info | Apr 19, 2010 19:07 | #11 As far as the OP's poll, I don't know yet. I have the 35L but it's not wide enough for certain situations. I'll be able to state an opinion once I get the 24L. One possible reason the 35L seems to be favored is the cost, the 24L is quite a bit more.

For "general" use, I doubt you could beat the 35L on full-frame, as I'd imagine that there are definitely better choices out there than the 24L II for landscaping and architecture (TS-E 17/24, Zeiss 21 ZE). Just my 2 cents!

Just my 2 cents! Absolutely, but I chose the 24L II because it answered the OP's question directly. I don't do enough "general use" shooting to merit a $1200+ prime. 7D, 5D mark II
