I was playing around with the Wimberley Head, WH-200 at a local park. Using the 1D4 with 300mm f2.8 & 1.4X TC. The Wimberley is very sweet once it is balanced and set up. Sure beats holding a heavy camera/lens combo for a long time. You can quite honestly move the whole assembly with one finger! Even though it makes life easier for the photographer, tracking BIF is no easy task! Getting great pictures of BIF takes time and lots of patience. This goose flew right towards me and the setting sun then turned 90 degrees to his left and landed. I snapped away through his landing sequence. Hope you like them.

Nice Work. Lovely light angle. Dig those Wimberley setups. How far off was she? Heavy crop?

Do you have any drag dialed in or are you letting the Wimberly move completely free?

Nice shots. Why is it hard to track them? A matter of practice?

Hi Jay & Mitch,

I had a slight amount of drag dialed in (or "friction lock" on the throttles!). I suppose it'll take some practice and time to get better at tracking the birds. This is not a tight crop at all. It's pretty much WYSIWYG. The lighting was great, that golden hour prior to sunset. Believe me, after I took this sequence of shots, I chimped and had a big smile on my face! I really love the new Wimberley Head!

Cool...

I can see a Wimberly and 3-Series Gitz in my future once Uncle Sugar coughs up the money I never meant to loan him.:lol:

Nice!

Nice captures even though the blues seem a bit overdone.

Jay,
I'll probably grab my gear and head back again this evening. You'll love the Wimberley! I've been watching for it on B&H for quite some time. I signed up for the email notice when it was back in stock. The build quality is top notch and suberb quality. I'm using it on top of a Manfrotto CF Carbon Fiber tripod. Now I just have to put in the time and get the feel to tracking birds. Tracking aircraft is easier since they fly pretty much in a straight line and their movements are predictable. Birds are anything but predictable!
