Are they really fast method of using with the camera/card reader, or they really just hype?

i don't think it's all hype, but none of the card readers are as fast as the rated speeds of the 60-90MB/s lines of CF cards. most card readers top out at 40MB/s. now there are some benefits to the faster cards in the camera, but they aren't very noticable. I have an Extreme Pro 16GB and I question needing it right now. Most say the Extreme line of Samsung (60MB/s) is about as far as you need (if that--some say 30MB/s is good enough) for the current generation of cameras.

Well, that's true if you're talking about USB. But Firewire800 or Expresscard readers will go much faster. My ExpressCard reader does 76 MB/s downloads from my 60 MB/s card.

If you have a UDMA card you need to have a UDMA reader or you will not see the benefit. I have both UDMA cards and a UDMA reader and there is quite a difference in speed.

I would say 1.5-2 times faster than standard readers, that's what mine seems to be.
