I just bought this http://cgi.ebay.com …geName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123 (external link) today and I just realized that it is not suited for a Canon Rebel XS (1000D). I emailed the seller and he replied with, "If you want to use this item in a Canon 1000D in wireless remote control function, you need to buy a shutter release cable for Canon 1000D. "

So my question, being a beginner, how will this affect the functionality of this? I'm not sure I even really understand what the wireless remote is for other than taking pictures of yourself or long exposures, and stuff.

Any help would be great! Thank you!

The unit you bought has an "N3" connector whilst your camera body has an "E3" connector. That's why the supplier is saying you need to buy the other cable. This is only relevant if you want to fire the camera with the radio trigger and you don't need the cable at all if you just want trigger flashes remotely (because the radio trigger sits in the cameras hot shoe).

The cable they are selling separately are really expensive. I would suggest to invest a little bit more and buy a whole new set with the proper cable included. It will cost you a few dollar more, but you will also have a second receiver and transmitter.

I started with a pair of RF-602, now I've expanded my system to 2 TX and 6 RX and I'm using all of them in multiple flash setup.

Wait a sec, isn't the cable he's talking about just a shutter release cable?I thought those were like, $7-$12?

That's expensive for a cable only when you can pay the double (~$20) and have an additional remote receiver + 2 cables...
