Does look interesting. I wonder if the model for the 5D2 could also handle the 7D, or vice versa? Seems the only distinction would be the resolution, and the 5D2 has the same resolution as the 1Ds3, which uses the same version the 7D does.

Video is video so I doubt it's the image resolution that distinquishes the different models of that viewer. I'm thinking it might be more related to the type of remote shutter release port used on the camera although why the 5D2 uses a different model from the 7D or 1D3 is a real puzzle to me.

Well, they both accept the N3. Only difference I can see in the ports on them is that the 7D uses a tweaked USB port for both USB and composite video output, but in that case you'd expect the 7D to be the one with a different model number. Unless the 5D2 model has IR triggering of the camera either instead of or in addition to the N3 connector. Definitely a puzzlement.

The main issue with these units, is that if they use live view for the viewing method, then the shutter button does not control the AF. AF is turned on by the AF-on button.

That means the shutter button on the remote won't be able to AF with half a press, this is major limitation. You note none of the adds mentions anything to do with focusing.

I had a Phottix Hector wired live view remote and it was not able to AF on half a press.
It would depend on what camera body you are using, but it didn't work on a 5dm2.
