I am looking to upgrade from my xti shortly. I've done a lot of research and thought I had narrowed it down to the 50D. But recently I've read some good reviews on the T2i. I am looking to hear from both 50D and T2I users on their pros and cons due to constant in the field use. I occasionally shoot sports but do a lot of landscape, city scape, and gatherings such as partys. I look forward to your help. Thanks.

50D would be my tool.

Better build
Fits my hands better
Better for sports
More useful features
Don't care for video

For what you are shootig, you might as well just get an XSi and invest in good glass.

Umm yeah when I upgrade I've set aside some money for some expensive glass. And I don't care for video either!

Get the 50D. The t2 still doesn't have the ability to shoot action very well. The 50D is a great all around camera with room to grow. Better build and iso capabilities. Better for action photography. Better AF system. It's still 15.1mp versus the t2's 18mp. Not that much of a difference to take the step down and lose the other gains from the 50D.

good luck with whichever route you take.

I buy everything except the ISO abilities. by everything I've read the t2i has ISO performance like the 7d, which has better ISO performance than the 50d.

i just had the same dilemma as you! but i went for the 50d. i read nonstop about reviews and i went with the 50d. The 50d feels bulky and more comfortable and while the rebel series feel like plastic. but thats just how i feel about it!

the new metering system, better screen and better high iso are all pretty big perks for the t2i.

Video. Video. Video. Did I say it enough times ? T2i has actual, real, pro-quality video on top of a very decent photo features.

If you're a "pure photographer" then probably 50D is for you.

For me, T2i, at least in specs, looks like a perfect all-round camera. If it only had microadjust... but then from what I read it's too easy to adjust zoom for one focal lg and screw up another.

even though the T2i has better ISO performance, more megagpixels, High Definition video, smaller, less cost, etc. it's a Rebel - would you want to be seen in public taking pictures and video with a Rebel?

That's the one thing that's wrong with it. Smaller means more awkward to hold for people larger hands. Smaller means a smaller viewfinder. Smaller means no room for the joystick so you can easily change AF points. Smaller means you don't get the big and very easy to use wheel on the back. Smaller means leaving out things like a PC port to control off camera flash units.

If they drop the T2i internals into a 50D body then the 60D will be a very nice camera.

50D. aside from the very similar specs between the two that T2i just feels tiny and poorly made. The 50D is a proven workhorse.
