DVD Case Insert

One of the areas of improvement for my business is my casing for DVDs. I outsource all of my printing services.

However, I do make my DVDs. I put them in a conventional DVD case and place an insert in that I create in publisher and print on my own personal printer. The insert has two of my favorite images from the day along with the couples name, my business, etc.

Unfortunately, I'm not happy with the quality. I feel that the quality isn't on par with the prints. However, I also don't want to wait for a printing house to make the labels.

What system does everyone else use? A generic sleeve that I can order that I can use for multiple events? Stick to just text and embellishments on the sleeve?

There are nicer options out (leather bound boxes, etc.), but senior and engagement sessions in particular aren't priced to warrant that kind of service.

I'd love to see some samples of what others do.

Hi wd - read your post but I'm not quite sure what it is that you're after.

Are you saying that you're not completely happy with the design and layout work that is going into your case inserts, or the quality of the printing that makes up the inserts themselves. Are you printing directly on the disks themselves and not pleased with the results?

Give us some specifics and perhaps we can assist better. - Stu ;)

Those in bold are what I believe he was trying to ask.

As for me, I burn & print on my printable DVDs, then get a nice case from my local store that goes with a matching set of boxes for prints and albums. You can also do a google search, I believe someone asked this question before. There are some nice online custom CD/DVD presentation solution, but costs more as well.

I suspect you are correct Viet ;).

I also print on my own high quality (white background, print to hub) CD's & DVD's, and then use the template program that came with my printer to do jackets, inserts, etc. Printing on photo paper with my inkjet the quality is as good as my fine art prints, relatively quick to do and reasonably convenient.

Sorry.
I was a bit over the place on my question.. I'm finewith what's on the disc itself.

I'm more interested in what everyone else is using for the inserts/jackets etc. I did search the forums, but maybe I didn't look hard enough. All I was able to find was different kind of case solutions. I'm fine with the case. It's just that slip in paper that goes in to the jacket.

Are these custom for each event? Are you using a photo from the event on the sleeve?

I'm finding that printing on ink jet glossy paper from my Canon inkjet is nowhere near as high quality as I get through WHCC or Miller's for my prints.

Sounds like you either need to get a better inket printer, paper, ink or all of the above. If your paper/printer is profiled correctly that you should be getting beautiful results. What kind of paper are you using with your Canon paper?

Yes - I will make custom images for each event from that event, which is what makes it special and unique. It does take a little bit of time but the results are worth it.

I've gone to using HP's laser writer for the discs and now don't use any insert at all. Even though I consider the approach somewhat simple and ordinary, the couple always kind of gush over it as though they've never seen anything like it before.

So, what is your packaging then? A CD jewelbox, a DVD Case, or something else?

Yes, my printer needs updating. But, since the only thing I print are documents (which look great) and the DVD Case (Which looks okay, just not up to par of the prints), I'm considering different solutions..

I used to do lightscribe disks and a photo insert into a leather look folio case, but it looked old fashioned and it was painfully slow to create them and lightscribe disks look very poor at the side of nice inkjet printed disks.

I now do inkjet printed disks (Tayo Yuden Watershield Disks + Epson PX710W = awesome finish) in metal tins and they are very quick to do, it saves me hours and I think it looks nicer and more modern.

I too was unhappy with my 'home made' DVD case inserts, so I went to leather bound cases. I keep them plain for portraits but I may get them hot stamped for a wedding.

Yes, just a basic play jewel case, with a label for the back reflecting my branding. And Jon is right, it's very slow; probably 30 minutes to burn a label. But the clients do really react to it.

Beautiful work Jon - thanks for sharing. Where do you get the DVD tins? It really gives it a unique special look. - Stu

I have high quality matt A4 photo paper that I print on with a photo printer at home.. I have a template sized in photoshop that is exactly the size of the DVD covers... B&Gs seem to love them... :)

Our printer also prints onto the discs directly so usually the two match.

A bunch of Canon bits and pieces.
