Upgrade conundrum!

I currently own a D30 with battery grip and 28-135 IS and 75-300 IS. I want to upgrade but am going back and forth on which path is best. I shoot mostly wildlife, scenics and archetecture with a few portraits mixed in. I have sold images in the past, before I went digital, and my goal is to get back doing that. Thus image quality is important as is, unfortunately, cost. My current thiking, in no particular order is:

1) Buy 20d and keep the lenses.

2) Buy 350D/XT sell the 75-300 and get maybe a 100-400L (can use the backup later on)

3) Buy a used 10d and get 100-400L or 70-200 IS

4) keep the D30 and get a killer new lens or two.

I know the D30 probably is not worth much on the used market so selling it does not really change my outcome.

All advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

If I was happy with my lenses, I'd buy a 20D or 350XD and use my current glass. I would add a long L lens later (100-400 or just the 400 f/5.6 prime)

The 20D is three generations more advanced.. It does most things better.

I am happy with the 28-135 but the 75-300 is slow focusing and I long for additional sharpness. I presume the 20D will help in focusing speed but will it help in the sharpness category too?

You might be best off buying a used 10D and getting some good long lenses. I have the 70-200 f2.8 non-IS and so far I don't see why anyone would need IS on this lens. The 100-400 IS would also be a good one to get.

I owned a 10D and I can tell you... you won't be satisfied with it... I wasn't. I would never own one again! ! ! If I were you, I would bite the bullet and go with the 350xt or better yet the 20D (better choice). You will like the dynamic range and focus speed a whole lot better! I know a few people that liked the Rebel (300) and recently upgraded to the 20D. They are extremely pleased with it from it's light weight to it's picture quality and speed. Upgrading is always a tough choice! ! !

You've partially answered the question yourself by saying you want to "upgrade."

Go for a 20D. You already own a couple of respectable lenses and you can add to them later.

Try to get a steady shot @1/40-200mm and you'll find out ! Personal experience, I had the non IS and switched to IS just because I was somehow depressed. I don't regret a penny and will buy it again.

Did it already, while I was initially testing the lens. Wasn't that hard.

Thanks all for the input. Im still not sure which way I will ultimately go, its a dollars thing unfortunately. But I am quite sure the D30 is going.

I'd go with choice no. 2 The 350D's sensor is pretty awesome, a step above your D30. You'll love the high ISO performance, and the extra megapixels. Cropability!

It might be a little small and plastiky though.

Anyway, I'd sell the d30 and pick up a Canon EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM. The 100-400L is way better but the question is $$$
