One of many sunset pictures I took in Grandview Campground in the White Mountains, looking west toward the Sierra Nevadas.

That's so pretty...love the sky colors framed by the tree silhouettes. Nice, Lonnie.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Thomas
Great shot

Stan
There are many White mountains in the US. We have set up here north of Fairbanks, AK. I've seen many beautiful shots taken by the late Galen Rowell of this set of White Mountains, just east of the Sierras, and Mt Whitney in southern CA. I think the bristle cone pines reside there

I agree. The Grandview Campground has to be one of my favorite spots.

Photographers like it, because it is free.
Photographers like it, because it is right down the road from the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest and some old silver mines
Photographers like it, because you can shoot west, right over Bishop, toward some great sunsets.

Did I mention that it is free?

The problem is that there is no water. Come prepared.

There's an interesting view to the east during a sunset, too. I've been told that the murky, dark look in the sky is the earth's shadow against the atmosphere. Do you know if that's true, Bob? Or was I just fed a line?

That's what I thought too! Must have been a really clear day to see all the way to the Sierra Nevadas!

Great picture! Thanks for sharing!

That sounds plausible.

My favorite shadow is seen when I am climbing a high, cone-shaped volcano. Just after sunrise, the volcano casts its triangular shadow to the west. Very cool.

I like the composition of this one a great deal. Did you use a NGD or anything to get the contrast right?

That's what I thought, too, but when I told that to a few other people in our group they just looked at me like I was out of my freaking mind... :)

I used a circular polarizer. Lately I've been keeping that on the lens all the time instead of a UV filter.

A stunning sunset ... but am I the only one who thinks it might be a bit over-sharpened? I see a lot of contrast between the sky and trees. Maybe it's my monitor, time to recalibrate I think.

I can sort of see a little haloing around the edges that might make you think that, but it looks ok in my larger sized version. I guess I need to rethink how I resize pictures for display on the web. You're the second person this week to accuse me of oversharpening my pictures here...

I think it has more to do with the way different moniters show it. I've noticed on some of mine where I did a little USM and it looked great on my home computer, but when I looked at it a work it had a lot of haloing. I've also noticed sometimes that it looks good when I do it but when I look at it on the gallery page I was, same thing, a haloing effect. I try to do the least amount of USM I can. Oh by the way I didn't really notice any haloing on these that you posted.
