I've been trying for quite awhile to get my prints to match my screen colors but it's just no happening. The colors are close but the blue channel in particular seems to be off the most, looks more purple. It's very obvious when comparing to a color test chart, I used the one from "The Digital Dog".

By far, I get the best results when using Canon Paper with my Canon Pixma 4700 printer, and printing through Canon Easy-PhotoPrint. Tried printing through DPP as well as PSE7 with "photoshop managing colors" set. I have also tried RR Paper as well as Ilford Galerie with the respective paper profiles installed and selected.

I've been over and over all my settings and just can't figure out where things are going wrong. A little while back I realized that I did not have "ICC Profile" selected in Easy-PhotoPrint which I assume applies the paper profile settings set in DPP ? That made a slight difference but still not a great match.

Monitor is calibrated with a Spyder 3 Express
sRGB set across the board
Dell 2209WA monitor .....Brightness set at 12

Any suggestions on where to go from here ?

Looks good.
PSE matching colors should give the same results as DPP with these settings.

Might be that the blues are simply unprintable and thus turn purple... If you have Photoshop (not Elements) a softproof might show that.

You could try perceptual instead of relative colorimetric. Might make a difference, might not.

Overall I've found that relative colorimetric gives a better match, sometimes they're close sometimes not. But, I just tried printing a picture in perceptual that I was working on the other day. In RC the persons blue jacket came out purple, the print I just did in perceptual the blue jacket matches pretty good but some of the other colors don't match as well.

I'm surprised at the distinct difference between these rendering intents in the blue channel with this picture. Is it normal for these two to be so different ?

Perceptual will shift the colors but tries to maintain the relationship between colors so it doesn't look unnatural. Relative will substitute the nearest color in the printer's gamut and clips out of gamut colors. My own printer extends beyond sRGB in strong blues, but is weak in bright greens and yellows, causing some color shifts.

I was just working on the photo I have with the person with the blue jacket. This time I tried printing it through PSE7. With the Canon paper profile selected the preview shows the jacket purple if I select Relative Colorimetric and blue if I select Perceptual, just like it prints in Easy Print. If I change the paper profile to the Red River or the Ilford profiles I have the preview looks to be a very good match in RC but still prints off a few shades, but much closer to blue.

So then I tried printing a picture I have with some blueish water in the background. I used the Ilford paper with the correct profile selected for my printer. The preview looked good but when I printed it the water has a purple tint to it, the other colors look pretty good though. I Tried it in RC as well as Perceptual and they both look very close to the same.

Any ideas ??
