I've been a bit slow getting these up as I've been away since 15th when I shot the two evening planets and a very thin crescent moon. First I was keen to shoot the moon as early as I could get it. It was just under 30 hours old in this shot (not quite my earliest ever). This is a slight crop from a shot with the 100-400 and 1.4x extender at 560mm.

As they started to set I was just able to pick up faint Mercury.

I think this one is about the best I got, before they started to get lower into the haze.

Here's a tighter frame, just showing the moon and Mercury.

And finally a later shot as they descended towards the horizon.

Lovely set. They'd make nice desktop backgrounds I reckon.

Nice shots Madweasel. I went to the New Forest the other night to check out just how dark it gets, and though the horizon in the west wasn't ideal, it does make me want to go to somewhere with a perfect west horizon so I can watch the thin crescent moon set...I've never seen one less than several days old.

Nice shot, I tried to get this one set up in time as well, but it was not meant to be for me.

The third pic looks the best out of all them, but they are cool. I like how the Moon is. It has that lunar, mystery look.
