Can anyone suggest a good camera bag that is able to carry a laptop and a tripod and that is not insanely huge lol?

I have been looking for 2 bags: one for daily activities and one for traveling or hiking. So far I found my first one, which will be a crumpler 5MDH but now I'm searching for a traveling/hiking bag. At the moment the bag that could work is the tamrac adventure 9, however I am not sure if it can carry a tripod since it doesn't have a tripod holder like the ones found on the lowepro bags.

Anyone have any ideas besides the adventure 9?

Thanks in advance

Wow this bag is awesome, I appreciate you pointing this out to me. Looks like they have discontinued this model to make way the SLRC-206?

Only thing I find wrong is that there is no additional security from someone getting into it behind you. May have to get some small locks or something lol. Also On the new SLRC-206 i'm not really sure about the elastic bands for the tripod as opposed to the clips.

The reason I went for the old bag over the new is it's 7 inch depth, as you are storing the lenses horizontally, I felt the 4.5inches depth on the SLRC-206 would not fit some of my lenses and I couldn't risk it.

If you look at the picture of the lenses in the bag, you'll notice that they are relatively short lenses and the long lense is stored vertically.

This is my current configuration, the 5dm2 body has the battery grip attached

Also like you mention the tripod clips on the old bag are more flexible, and they are on both sides not just one as in the new bag. If you really have to, you could carry a tripod and monopod on either side of the old bag.

The reason I went for this bag, is it's compactness, it doesn't attract attention as it's not big, bulky or look heavy, when flying as it can easily fit in overhead locker.

Just had this same dilemma. Went to a photo store and they had a Tamrac 5617 (external link) also called the Ultra Pro 17. It holds two camera bodies, four lenses, 1-2 flashes, a bunch of accessories and my 17" MacBook Pro. There is also a strap on the bottom that will carry your tripod. It is about the size of a sizable laptop case. It has a nice strong and well padded shoulder strap.
The reason I went with this is because of the need to haul my computer and travel photo system as a carry-on on the plane. It worked so great. I know you'd be happy with this set up.

Great bag, what about accessability, I guess you need to remove the camera bodies to get the extra lenses out and other accessories stored at the bottom.

I have my 24-105 L on my 50D mounted, 10-22 is accessible, 17-40 L beneath that, 75-300 IS is in it's separate section. Vivitar 285 flash in its own section too. Only took one body, but still had room to store the other body. I have room and the option to store tall telephotos like 70-200 2.8 or 300 f4 L.

just saw the new caselogic SLRC-206 at frys electronics yesterday and it is an extremely nice solid bag. I thought the tripod straps were elastic however they are straps held together with velcro. I plan on getting this very shortly:)
