Pretty random, but I believe some of them came out pretty nice.
C&C is welcome, I hope that for a change, this thread wont go down without a single comment... :\

The first one looks a little fuzzy... the 3rd one has the best sky, but the frame seems a little tight; I would want to give both elbows a little bit more room to breathe. Also seems that the rock under his left hand is more in focus than his face. Do you center-pt. focus and recompose, or change your focal pt. each time?

As for #2... taking photos of friends sitting around in their everyday clothes is difficult. (This is how I practice sometimes, too.) You still have to find a way to make the photos interesting. I like your caption (The Lonely Patriot), but I picture something totally different than this shot when I think about it --- I picture maybe a shot from behind, he's standing looking out at the ocean, landscape orientation, holding the flag angled down in one hand. Something like that. I guess basically what I'm trying to say is that photos like these should tell stories (in my humble opinion), and these don't necessarily do that.

Practice more, and practice lots! You obviously have a willing model, which is often half the battle. :)
