i would be obliged if any other users here have a custom profile for the dell u2711 than you can email me so i can analyze it against my custom profile made with my spyder 3

i note from reviews on the web that the various testers have all arrived at the fact the dell u2711 can pretty much display the whole ARGB gamut.

problem here is after repeated profile creation with all manner of different tweaks applied, my custom spyder profile seems to have poor green / red performance.

i have analyzed the supplied profile from dell with those findings from web reviews, and also directly against a standard ARGB profile and it tracks pretty accurately....but as can be seen from the screenshot, there is a helluva difference between the supplied dell profile and my own spyder 3 creation.

the coloured part represents my spyder 3 monitor profile, and the grey part the supplied dell profile. as you can see there is a pretty big chunk of colour missing.
so i would be very appreciative of your thoughts on this apart from the obvious (faulty spyder)

in particular any other spyder 3 users to forward your custom profile for comparison purposes.
this chunk of gamut missing is alarming
if you happen to have a custom profile for this display, please tell me what device profiled it and please email it to boagie@hotmail.co.uk (external link)

doc can you please tell me.........

what mode the monitor was in (srgb or argb or custom)
what the brightness value and contrast value is of your screen also
and if you altered the rgb values onscreen or left that all to the spyder
did you use iterative gray balancing ???

i am trying to mimic your screen settings to be as accurate as i can for comparing

preset: custom color
brightness i believe was at 50 and contrast was also 50

i didnt alter any rbg values... and i dont even know what iterative grey balancing is

i dont know if it matters or not.. but my graghics card is an ati 5770 set at 32 bit color quality

is my color coming out bad or something?

yes its just as bad as mine - i have emailed datacolor and sent a report to them for an explanation. and also to ask if the spyder3 is wide gamut capable.

the following comparisons are of profiles V adobe rgb
adobe rgb is the greyed area andf this represents the entire gamut from a particular point to highlight the clipping problem, and also to highlight how dells own custom factory profile manages to accurately follow the general ARGB contours give or take a little.

this is your (doc flunty)profile versus the abobe rgb profile (yours is the coloured part)

on another point i have done further tests with the spyder3 (elite software) with the srgb mode both on the dell u2711 and also a packard bell maestro (natively srgb) and again the green performance is just short of the srgb green maximum, this definately spells out to me that there has to be some sort of issue either with the datacolor software, or the limitations of the hardware in its lack of ability to capture gamut, namely the greens.

as you can see from all of the screenshots above - it isnt even anywhere near the dells custom profile performance, or the monitors colour fidelity,

this cannot now really be a one off with my device being faulty ?
i await datacolours reply and will report back for all with this or any other monitor who may be using the popular spyder 3 hardware/software
