I have never specifically done a bridal shoot before, and I am going to have my first chance at it in a little less than a month from now. I have worked with brides before from time to time, but not specifically spending a few hours just taking photos of them. Therefore, I'd like some ideas.

I do not know how I will pose her or light anything yet (it's going to be mostly or all indoors). My biggest issue is posing and composing the shot with the pose. How do you work with a bride specifically for solo pictures? I know I will need to use the environment for props, but this is going to be about leading lines, contrast, expression and all the ways the body moves and bends - plus composing the shot in a way that takes advantage of the poses. I am admittedly very weak with this and I could use some suggestions.

Speaking from my vast experience of 2 completed bridal sessions ;) one of which was indoors, my client's favorite poses were those I took from above her (I was able to go onto a second level in the lobby & shoot down at her on a stair landing), and of her facing the glass entrance doors (which made for nice light on her while keeping a shadowy area behind her).

Posing comes with experience, but a few hours is too long. My longest bridal is around 2 hours, and that's still too long.

For me, I take my time, pose and look at the whole picture before I shoot, if something is "off", I'd stop and fix it till I'm satisfied with it. If the bride looks or feel awkward in a pose, it's probably not for her, change it till it fits. After a while, you can tell if a pose is suited for a certain bride.
