Apr 23, 2010 13:50 | #6 Thanks, We call em Black Robins here in Hungary and when they sing they sound very identical to North American Robins, I am originally from Canada, so I can see the similarity. This is latin "Turdus merula, and NA Robins are called "Turdus migratorius. I know Euro Robins are smaller and have an orangy spot on them. Here we also have Gray Robins that you may call Gray winged Blackbird and those behave the exact same way as these guys. SacMac wrote in post #10052044  These are superb shots, John. I've never heard a North American Robin, only seen a couple in the distance on visits to America! I checked my Collins bird guide and our Blackbird is definitely the Turdus merula so just a difference in the English (or Hungarian) names. If your Gray Robin is the Turdus torquatus, then we call it a Ring Ouzel. Go figure Sheryl
