Someone posted about this setup a few weeks ago and I was wondering what you all think of it. I am going to search for it, but wanted to ask for feedback.

I will be using a 580ex (2) and and a 420 ex. I see that this comes with some triggers (Cactus). Can I setup all the flashes to use Cactus's (spelling), if I purchase a couple more receivers? One trigger will fire all the flashes if the flashes have receivers?

Or can I simply use infrared to fire off all my flashes?

And what do you think of the kit itself?

Thanks

Scott

One trigger will fire a bunch of cactus receivers. cactus are okay but not the most reliable. do they sell the same package without the Cactus triggers? If so you can buy that and buy the RF-602s.

Will you be using a 580ex II OR 2, 580ex's? So will you have 3 lights or 2 lights?

What are you using as a modifier for the other flash(es)? Stands for other flash(es)?

You can use the 580 on camera to trigger the 430 off camera but radio triggers are more reliable.

I am thinking about a 2 or 3 light setup. Probably 2 580's and my 420. I would be borrowing my buddies 580. The reason I am thinking of a 3 light setup is because next week I will be doing my son's Communion photos inside the church.

I figure more light is better than not having enough light. I have two umbrellas, and I was think of getting the soft box listed above.

They do have this listed on their site: http://www.gadgetinfinity.com …ductid=17200&cat=0&page=1 (external link)

The RF-602's, they will work with the Canon flashes?

Are there any other soft boxes you can recommend?

The RF-602s will work, and are more reliable than the Cactus.

The Cheetah QBox 24 is a portable softbox for speedlites that comes with the mount and speedring all for $99. The quality is very good and there is a long thread here on the forum that discusses it.

You wont get a stand with it or the triggers so you'll end up spending a bit more.

I shot my wife's godson's communion at his church last weekend and a single 580 on camera worked for me.

Do you own these flashes already?

No, I borrow them from a buddy when I need them. Know each other forever. I just got some yonugos from fredmiranda and some triggers to go with them. So with the lights I bought and can borrow, I should have plenty of light.

This is my oldest son's communion and I have set it up so that I can his formal photos done without dealing with much of it on communion day. I have access to the church so I am going to take advantage of being able to get in there without every family trying to take photos.

And I can take my time and set everything up without dealing with all the hubub.
