I have the 70-200 IS II and a 5D Mk2. What are you talking about? (sorry, kinda a newbie)

No problem...
I was asking if anyone had used the micro autofocus adjustment function in the camera menu to precisely calibrate this relatively new lens to their camera body. The only body I have that has this feature is the 1Ds mark III. But your 5DII also has this feature. You should play around with it if you have not already. It can greatly contribute to the sharpness of your shots.

for me micro adjustments in photography is the same thing as back focus/flange focal length in the film/video world.

Ahhhh.......backfocus. I understand about that. :)

Shouldn't use us the Lens Align tool for this type of stuff? Or are you saying you can do this with your eye?

You can do it with the lens align tool but you can also set up your own with a tripod, focus targets (like AA batteries), and plenty of light.

I haven't had to MA at all on the 1Ds III. It works right out of the box for me. :)

You are very fortunate!
My 85L would be unusable without micro AF!

Yes indeed. :) Have a look at my sample gallery. All shot with the 70-200 2.8 IS MK II and 1Ds III.

Btw, how much did you have to MA your 85 L?

Thanks for showing me the sample gallery Julian! Your lens is clearly working well with your body.

Believe it or not, my 85L required +18 MAF!! And that's after a trip to Canon repair! Iam very happy with it's performance now...
Mike

The only lens that I could not improve at all with the M-AF was the 16-35II.

Woah! +18? That's a bit extreme. :) As long as it works. :)

My 16-35 II works well w/o MA too. :)
