Hey, So I came up with this card and was hoping for a little feedback.
Don't judge the website yet, as I'm still working on it. Thanks =)

Think you should have a picture of you taking a picture of something other then leaves and flowers. Just my 2 cents.

Neill:

If I were going to hire you based on your business card, I would be much more interested in seeing a photograph that you took, rather than one that somebody else took of you.

Also, not to beat a dead horse (there's seemingly a post every day on this subject), but I'd also recommend that you take advantage of the back side of your card. Otherwise you're just wasting that space.

My too sense.

James

Im kinda over the "image on a card", but thats my opinion...

Make it Simple and easy to read... those fonts will be soooo tiny when printed.
Put your name and 2-3 bits of info on there and then make sure your site is up to snuff....

you can make all the fancy ass cards you want, but if they have to work to see your info they will never make it to your site which is where you will showcase yourself AND make it easy for them to email you from there...

My cards have actual Raised INK on them and no pic... and on expensive linen paper... everyone and their brother has the cheap ass, dime a hundred printed cards... make yourself stand out. I had a lady that designs invitations tell me my card was amazing, and was nice to see something so simple and elegant, and have texture you can feel.

Im not saying my cards are the best thing to ever happen, but they stand out with out being crazy expensive.

Yep, maybe I'm old-school or just plain old, but I don't care for photos as a business card either.

It looks like it's from the 80s. The picture adds nothing. Start again. Use an email address at your domain, it looks far more professional than gmail.

I think gmail is well known and established enough it holdS just as much credentials as a domain name. It's actuallyy about ease of use as apposed to appearance of professionalismn

To my eye it's a sign of an amateur.

Your looking at it from a photographers view, maybe even a pro. Don't know your credentials only see you obscene post count. I'm not looking forbl a career in photography. Maybe I am an amature and my work isn't the most stellar. I just highly doubt a potential client is gonna hire me based on the domain which my email is being hosted at

Take a look at my website, it's linked from my profile, and yep i'm a pro.

Lots of things add together to form a professional image. There's no point no doing the simple, little things.

You'd be surprised.

I tend not to do business with people who use a public email address.

The thing is it costs nothing to setup Gmail for your domain via Google Apps (external link).

You already own the domain which is your only expense.

Then you can have something like neill AT neilldrake . com or info AT neilldrake . com (edited to avoid spam spider bots) and look much more professional.

It's a no lose situation / no downside.

Oh and regarding the card design itself I pretty much agree with most of the other comments.

I'm a pro... I use gmail and think HIGHLY of any one that uses it too. Why? Because google has their ish together. Now if it was hotmail or someBS then yeah...

Gmail is sooooo reliable and user friendly
I had emails set up thru my domain and went a month one time where no one could email me. And only found out because a bride told my roomate I wasn't replying.

It's a huge prob as well when you forward it to your gmail and try to reply... Never works and I can't risk it any more.

Sure gmail is free, so is my domain email. Google is such an iconof the Internet and will only have more of a presense. And I'm riding it all the way.

I agree Gmail is great. So why not get Gmail for your domain?
