I recently received my 580EXII flash. I have never used anything except the pop-up flash so I took several shots experimenting with the different flash modes as well as off camera flash.
The first shot was with the flash on camera in the ETTL mode and the FEC at -1 1/3. I expsosed the image properly in camera, then adjusted the flash until I thought the shot looked good. I don't know if this is correct, but it is how I did it.
This image I used the flash as a slave unit controlled by my 7D. This was a learning experience but once I figured it out, the flash worked great. For this shot, the flash was camera left, held high to shoot the light over top of the helmet.
On my third day with the flash, I again tried to use it off camera. I took shots of several things, but nothing worked out. I then went outside to try something different. I used the deck jets on my pool to create this shot.
Finally, this was my shot for today.
I know I still have a lot of work to do with the lightig so any comments would be appreciated.
